GETTING TO NGAPALI

Domestic flights to Thandwe have resumed and currently there is no quarantine requirement when traveling to Thandwe/Ngapali by air. In order to fly, all passengers are currently required to take a COVID-19 rapid diagnostic test (RDT) within 36 hours of the flight departure time. We went to Ngapali over the New Years holiday and can confirm that the process is clear and smooth

In Yangon, COVID-19 tests are available at the Burma Tourism Building by Sule Square from 9a-3p for 15,000ks. Pun Hlaing Hospital is also offering tests by appointment. You will receive the medical certificate on the same day which you must present to the airlines upon check-in. In Thandwe, tests are administered at the Thandwe Town Hall (15 minute taxi ride) the day before the scheduled departure date. The test results are given directly to the airlines and the process takes less than 2 hours.

We will share detailed step-by-step instructions for preparing to take the test if the requirement is in still in place in Feburary when we travel.

BOOKING YOUR FLIGHT: We will recommend specific flights closer to the travel date since airlines are still adding and changing flight times at the moment. Please do not book your flights in advance until you hear from us directly. You are welcome to arrive earlier or depart later than the scheduled dates - you will need to arrange your own accommodation for the additional days (the villa is only available for our specific retreat dates).

TRAVEL RISKS AND CONSIDERATIONS

We recognize that there are risks to organized group travel. We are monitoring new regulations and guidelines on travel. If new regulations arise that restrict travel to Thandwe or close Ngapali beach, we will cancel the retreat and offer a full refund. Outlined below are some risks to consider:

  • On January 7th, the local Thandwe gov't found 3 local transmission cases at the Thandwe market and one local person tested positive while staying at the Amazing Hotel Ngapali. This hotel is now under lockdown. We are monitoring any further spread of COVID in Thandwe.

  • There have been unconfirmed rumors that Ngapali beach will be closed but our sources there have not received a notification of closure. If the beach is closed, we will cancel this retreat.

  • If you test positive for COVID-19, you will likely be taken into quarantine immediately in a government facility. We have heard that Pun Hlaing hospital may allow you to go home, but this is unconfirmed. A recent Myanmar Times article reported the government is preparing to allow asymptomatic patients to quarantine at home, but this is unconfirmed at this time.

  • We will not be able to fully respect social distancing guidelines during the retreat since meals are served family style
