FREE YOGA 101 INTRODUCTORY CLASS EVERY MONTH!

At Yangon Yoga House, we believe that yoga is appropriate for everyone, whatever their fitness level, flexibility, or age. On the 1st Saturday of each month, we will host a FREE Yoga 101 class. This ongoing introductory workshop is designed specifically for all who have wanted to try yoga but have found it hard to do--until now! During this 90-minute class, students will be introduced to the basic poses (asanas) in yoga and to the principles of proper alignment needed for a safe yoga practice. We will also provide students with a foundation in yogic breathing and meditation, and explanation of the main types of yoga taught by YYH instructors.

Tips for your first visit
Before and during class
For your first class, please arrive 10 minutes early so you can speak with the instructor about special needs you may have.
If you are late: We know just how unpredictable Yangon traffic can be. If you are late for class, enter the space quietly and join the class trying to minimize disruption, and do a few warm up poses before joining in the teacher's sequence.
Clothing: Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows you to move freely. We have rooms where you can change and cubbies to store your belongings.
Bring: For yoga classes, we recommend that you bring and use your own yoga mat (for personal hygiene). If you don't have a yoga mat, we have free mats to use and all other yoga props for your convenience. Please also bring a water bottle (there is drinking water available at the studio).
Eating and drinking: It is not recommended to eat a big meal or drinking too much liquid before coming to a class as you may feel uncomfortable.
Footwear: We are a shoes-free studio! Please remove your shoes inside the gate and give your feet a rinse in the foot-washing station by the entrance before you enter the practice space.
Electronics: Please turn your phone to silent and leave it in the back room with your belongings - no mobile devices in the practice room please!
Take rest: You can ALWAYS take child’s pose when you need a rest - take this pose at any time, even if the teacher does not cue it.
On the mat: Yoga is a lifelong practice and there's no need to do it all on the first try. During class the instructor will offer modifications for poses so you can choose to make them more or less challenging, depending on your mood and needs.
In yoga practice, there is no competition. It is an opportunity for you to practice awareness of your body, breath and mind. Challenge yourself but don't push too hard - yoga should never be painful. Your neighbor might have been a pretzel in a former life, so don't be too concerned about what those around you might be doing, and choose the practice that suits you
