BUILDING FOUNDATIONS

This six-session course is designed for students who are brand new to yoga as well as students who have a regular practice, but would like to strengthen their understanding of the foundations of yoga practice. Learn how to safely align your unique body in many yoga postures including sun salutations, standing postures, twists, forward folds and back bends. Understand the mechanics of breath and how it supports the physical and mental practice. Through this workshop format, each student will have an opportunity to correct and improve their practice, gain confidence and feel empowered.

This course takes place twice a week for 3 weeks at Yangon Yoga House

YOU WILL LEARN

  • Detailed breakdown of traditional Sun Salutations that form the foundation of a vinyasa yoga practice

  • How to protect your spine and joints through safe alignment in the most common yoga postures, twists, forward bends, back bends and standing balance poses

  • Awareness of the foundation - feet placement and weight shifting for channeling strength and stability in various standing and balancing postures

  • How to maintain a healthy spine

  • Breathing techniques and breath mechanics in movement

  • Balancing effort and ease, the yin and yang energies of yoga practice

  • Simple short meditations to focus the mind

  • Basic yoga philosophy will be woven into each session

ABOUT JOJO

Jojo, along with her husband Jerome, are the founders of Yangon Yoga House. A New Yorker at heart, Jojo discovered yoga in 2007 as a means of releasing stress while traveling across America as a management consultant. In 2014, she left her corporate job in London to chase her dreams of wearing leggings professionally, receiving her 200-hour teaching certification in Bali from Vidya Heisel, founder of Frog Lotus Yoga. Shortly afterwards, she landed in Myanmar and hasn't worn a pencil skirt ever since. Jojo has attended trainings in yin yoga with David Kim, mandala vinyasa & tripsichore with The Yoga People London, yoga therapeutics with Daphne Chua as well as many immersions and workshops. She emphasizes the importance of tailoring the practice to meet the needs of the individual in both dynamic and slower practices.
