Who are Kokkoya Organics?
Kokkoya Organics is a social enterprise that focuses on training youth in organic farming while growing safe, organic vegetables for the community through a Community Supported Agriculture system. They have been growing greens in Yangon and delivering fresh vegetables to residents since 2017. They have built a network of organic farmers across Myanmar who have been growing right alongside them. Kokkoya is also a keen supporter of the local food movement and offers a range of locally produced foods such as yogurt, cheese, pasta, spreads, coffee and tea on their shop.
Over the last two years, Kokkoya has hosted many of the Yangon community at their farm in North Dagon for; farm to table dinners, farm to Brewery tours, workshops and trainings. They are the force behind the Saturday Yangon Farmer's Market, connecting city residents back to nature; food; and farmers.
What is the Kokkoya 2020 Campaign?
Kokkoya Organics has a new farm in Thingangyun and will move there in December of this year for a big year of growing in 2020. But the new site requires a lot of work to get it up and running; new fence, new veggie packing area, new growing beds, new greenhouse and a new cooler. So they are running a crowdfunding campaign from October 20th though November 25th.
Their new site will enable them to become even more of a community hub for Yangon, connecting its residents more to nature, food and farmers. Join the Kokkoya 2020 campaign and lets support our farmers!
