Isolated from the world for 5 decades due to military rule, visiting Myanmar is like entering a time warp. The world center of theraveda buddhism for 1,000 years, spirituality is woven into the fabric of the country's culture. As the first international teacher training to take place in the country, you will be one of the first to experience this mystical and unspoiled destination in a yoga retreat setting.

Located in central Myanmar, Inle Lake is the largest fresh water lake in the country, densely inhabited by many ethnic minorities and surrounded by the lush Blue Mountains rising 1,000m+ above sea level. During your time off, take a day hike through the lush hills to visit local tribe villages, glide through the floating gardens and market by boat, cycle to the local winery for a breathtaking sunset view or visit famous hilltop and cave temple ruins. Due to it's unique location, Inle Lake enjoys cooler climates than most of southeast Asia, an abundance of local produce and close vicinity to some of the most fascinating pagoda and temple sites.

Kakku Temples

We will stay in luxurious 4-star accommodations right on the lake at the newly built Novotel Inle Lake. Located right on the lake, the hotel has airy rooms overlooking lush gardens and deluxe villas built directly on the water.

The contemporary style rooms are comfortable and tastefully designed with all the creature comforts expected of a world-class hotel (plush robes, rainfall shower, plush bedding and mosquito nets, kettle, mini-fridge, safety deposit box, and of course wifi connectivity. During your down-time, lounge by the infinity swimming pool, get a massage at the full-service spa, study in the lounge or sip a coconut at the sunset deck.

The indoor yoga shala is steps away from the room, allowing us to practice without distraction of noise or the inevitable critters.

We will have 3 private vegetarian buffet meals daily, consisting of both Asian and international flavors, with a variety of choices for most dietary restrictions.

Getting to Inle Lake: All international flights to Myanmar arrive in the capital city of Yangon. From there, you can transfer to a domestic flight to Heho airport, the nearest airport to Inle Lake (~$200 R/T), or opt to take an overnight “VIP” express bus (~$20 one way) with fully reclined seats (we've taken it and it's surprisingly comfy!). Upon registering, we will assist you with booking internal transport since access to international booking portals is still limited in Myanmar. Upon arrival to Inle Lake region, we will arrange transportation to the hotel via car or private boat (included in tuition).

Visiting the rest of the country: If there is enough interest, we will organize an add-on trip at the end of the retreat to allow you to see the rest of this magnificent country. This 7 day itinerary will start with a 2-day trek from Inle Lake to Kalaw staying overnight in a local village homestay (your luggage will be transferred to the end point). We will then depart for the breathtaking archeological zone of Bagan, home to over 3,000 temples and stupas and spend 2 days cycling to temple sites and local workshops. We end the trip with some well deserved sun in Ngapali beach, a nearly-deserted strip of coastline with white sand beaches. We say farewell in Yangon on day 7. This add-on trip is $995 and includes a tour leader (and fellow yoga teacher), 6 nights accommodation (double occupancy), half board (breakfast + either lunch or dinner), 3 domestic flights and all activities, entrance fees and taxes.

Visas: 28-day tourist visas are required for most countries. You can apply for your e-Visa online for $50, processing time is 3 days. While we do not *condone* overstaying your visa, typically the penalty for short visa overstays (less than a week) is a $3 daily fee.

EARLY BIRD II:  $3995 USD; if application received by July 30th, 2016

FULL PRICE: $4200 USD; if application received after July 30, 2016

Private single room: $850 USD supplement

A $600 deposit payment is due at the time of your application. This deposit amount applies to your tuition. If your application is not accepted, the deposit will be fully refunded.

Tuition includes all group training sessions and classes, comprehensive 150+page manual, ongoing mentorship during and after the training, accommodations for 21 nights shared with one other person, 3 daily meals, transfer from Heho airport to hotel (excludes international flights or domestic flight/bus to Heho airport)
